VIOL-ENT T.O.T.D: Jico – Calling

Calling - Today’s track of the day comes from South London native Jico, whose track ‘Calling’ is an absolute banger that has the potential turn up any environment.

Jico uses this track ‘Calling’ to deliver a unique approach to the popular melodic US trap sound. The instrumental, which is something you could hear Atlanta based artist Gunna rapping on, provides as the perfect lay up for Jico to make a trap banger.

The instrumentations use of flute melodies, subtle piano notes, and a vibrant and bouncy trap drum rhythm, all play into Jico’s favour as he effortlessly floats over the production in a J Hus, Kojo Funds like cadence and tone, using his own distinctive relaxed and spacious flow to create unique ear-catching harmonies and melodies that further enhance the mellow vibe he brings to the track. For a huge portion of the track, Jico focuses on confident and ambition oriented lyrics that relate to his personal determination of building wealth, which he does this from a driven yet humble perspective.

Jico displays with this track that he has the ability to make a solid trap banger without compromising on his UK sound, he certainly puts himself within the realm of artist like Recky, Young Adz & Macca Wiles, who also include US trap influenced sonics within their production yet still maintain a very authentic UK sound with their vocal delivery and approach, while still giving the song a wholesome sound. This is a track you could definitely hear setting a wavy vibe within a club environment and would more than likely have its infectiously catchy chorus stuck in your head after a few listens. We will definitely be looking to hear more from Jico in the future. Be sure to check out the track below.
